The Unsinkable Heroine Finalists for 2001!blkline.jpg (755 bytes)

Winner of the Unsinkable Heroine Award 2002: Jennifer Grizzle, Beyond The Mists Of Midnight

Heart of Denver Romance Writers named its contest The Molly after Margaret Brown, a woman who lived in Denver at the turn of the 20th century and beyond. Her remarkable life story, which included surviving the Titanic, was immortalized in a Broadway play, and a movie starring Debbie Reynolds, entitled the Unsinkable Molly Brown. (More recently, Kathy Bates played her in Titanic). Each year, we honor the entry that has the heroine who best embodies the spirit of Molly Brown with the Unsinkable Heroine Award.

The winner receives a beautiful cameo brooch – just the sort of thing that the Unsinkable Molly Brown would have worn.

A finalist in the Unsinkable Heroine Award must receive a perfect score in the Unsinkable Heroine judging – and in this year of record entries, it comes as no surprise that we would have a record number of finalists – 12, out of more than 400 entries. And they are:

Hold On To Love                                by Terri Reed
Another Man's Bride                         by Devona Stiff
The Lion & The Rose                        by Mary Elizabeth O'Conner
Beyond The Mists Of Midnight       by Jenny  Leigh Grizzle
Dead Ringer                                       by Annie Solomon
Unexpected Grace                             by Lori Matthews
In Harmony                                        by Lee McClain
A Cowboy's Will                                by Charlotte Dillon
Driven To Matrimony                       by Barbara Kroon
Sweet Little Lies                               by Laurene Germano
The Counterfeit Bride                       by Lisa Childs-Theeuwes
Rich Man's Thief                              by Tricia White

With so many finalists, we knew we had to do something special to determine a winner.    This year, the final judging for the Unsinkable Heroine was done by -- drum roll please... double Rita winner Suzanne Brockman!!
